As our sporadic posts suggest, we are in full holiday swing. The studio is buzzing {sorry} with activity, creative plans for 2011 and wrapping, lots and lots of wrapping. We are wrapping up more than just gifts this year. A final wrap on many projects and the close of 2010. There are so many clients and new friends to be grateful for as we reach the end of a very rewarding 2010.

We thought we would take pause to share a recent short film. This one is special. We blogged about Katie and Tucker's ten year vow renewals a few months ago. Sure, it was a perfect beach sunset in Nantucket, intimate gathering and a festive reception at a fantastic Mexican bistro in town. But it is how this highlight {done exclusively in Vintage Super 8 film} shines a light on the real beauty of marriage found in family, simplicity, joy and gratitude. As the hectic 'keeping up' pace has a way of consuming us all during the holidays, this is a gentle reminder of what it should all be about.

We found new friends in Katie and Tucker and are so grateful they shared their meaningful, intimate celebration with us.
It is worth taking a moment to pause and reflect on your own family and friends by watching this to the end- and you may just tear up a little. We did.

nostalgic Super 8

Those little Super 8 clackity-clack-circa-1968 cameras we shoot with at weddings {along with our high def Canons} sure are magic. The images evoke such simple sweetness. Here is Meghan and Ty on Super 8 set to a whimsical song documenting the moments before the ceremony at their winery wedding. Last week, Style Me Pretty covered the pretty photography and our short film of this sweet wedding, sweet location, and yes, super sweet couple. Enjoy.

We really enjoyed being a part of this classic and vintage style Fall wedding in Newport for Heather and Mark. This couple got married on a moody and dramatic Fall day in an elegant venue. They were perfectly suited to catch of bit of their day on Super 8 film. Heather's forties style dress and Marilyn Monroe-esque manner, the vintage Rolls Royce, elegant Belle Mer and his dapper suit were a step back in time to elegant celebrations in Newport of yesteryear.

beautiful simplicity.

We love how film and video can portray so many moods on a wedding day. This is the second film short in a series from Michelle and John's wedding in Newport in August. We have so much fun eye candy to work with for their wedding weekend. From the Rehearsal Dinner Clambake to even more playful splicing and tunes for their Gatsby-esque cocktail hour and elegant reception.

For this 'chapter' of their day, (church ceremony) we found the vintage feel of Super 8 film captures the pure emotion in a way that sometimes even the most sleek editing on a high definition piece cannot. The black and white film focuses the attention on the simple gestures and emotions. The nervous glances, a father's kiss on his daughter's hand before the church doors open, the faces of the children in awe, and the big smiles of the new couple as they exit the church for the first time as husband and wife. Even the guests fanning themselves (no AC here!) in the church pew on what must have been the hottest day of the season has a feel of days gone by.

Michelle and John are a special couple and we feel this short film on their wedding ceremony embodies beautiful simplicity of those moments.

Elihu Island- Winter Love

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is collaboration. The opportunity to work with some of the most creative artists and vendors and the collective energy and vision that springs forth makes it all worthwhile. As we find ourselves in the midst of the holidays, we couldn't be happier to be in such fine company on such a lovely and inspired project.

In early December, we were honored to participate in such a day. Lucinda Wesson of Chocolate Creative Design had conceptualized a Holiday Island Farm wedding shoot with a vintage theme for some time. Elihu Island in Stonington was the perfect backdrop. She created inspiration boards and pulled in the talent of make up designer Jennie Fresa, Yumiko Fletcher, owner of Hana Floral Design, her business partner Sarah True of True Event, and Anna Sawin of Anna Sawin Photography to bring this inspiration to reality. Anna's images are beyond words! Pure eye candy.

Her artful work and photojournalistic style beautifully brought to life the vintage details, warm jewel tones and the mood of the Champagne Bubbles, Sugar Plums and Seven Swans a Swimming holiday shoot.

Buzz Media Company was fortunate to be on hand to capture some of the magic on black and white Super 8 film. Steve Depino and his lovely girlfriend Nicole are the beautiful models who made this incredibly easy.

As if the rewards of the collaboration were not enough, we couldn't be more thrilled this project was featured yesterday on Style Me Pretty with a four-part post giving the full story.

It was back to one of our favorite shoot locations to film the wonderful Meg and Ty on their engagement shoot (Norah too!) with talented friend and photographer- Maggie Conley. Check out her blog for the beautiful still images- Maggie shoots in film (as well as digital) and sets photographs in gorgeous calf skin leather wrap portfolios for elegant, soft bound wedding albums.

This couple is perfect on Super 8. They possess sweet, simple & classic old-school sensibilities. This medium seems to shine such a special light on their love. Congratulations Meg and Ty on your upcoming wedding. We look forward to working with you in the next year!

Vintage Super 8 Films

There is nothing that captures the sentimental simplicity of love like true film, grainy and saturated colors and short clips on a Super 8 camera.

We look forward to sharing more of our Vintage Super 8 Work in the coming months. More of our clients appreciate how the film shorts evoke such sweet playfulness and nostalgia of days gone by. We are getting more requests to add vintage film for bridal preparations and engagement shoots. In todays world, there is the constant quest to move forward, keep up on the latest trends & technology ( twitting, HiDef, FB videos and the list goes on). Shooting in Super 8 is a refreshing chance to go back to the basics.

Plus the cameras (ours circa 1968) are a complete hoot with their two button technology and whirring film sounds.

Vintage Wedding Film Restoration Specialists, too!

My mom's Dad was a Dentist...and a home movie maker.
He bought a 16 mm film camera sometime in the
mid 30's and did a fair job of documenting the family for 30 some years.
(A camera cost about $150 in 1935 and a car cost about $600).

I got a hold of the films and restored most of them...
(another service we offer at BMC)
Some of the early films were nearly un-playable. but with a lot of time and love, I managed to transfer and restore all but the first one or two reels (about 40 in all).

The DeWald Wedding-1939 on the Buzz Media Company website is footage of my grandparent's friend's wedding.
This film was literally crumbling apart as I hand fed it thru the projector.

I was going to add the tag
"We've been filming weddings for over 70 years"
but figured I'd give my grandfather, Eugene Klein, the credit. I think he did a pretty good job!

There's a lot more to the story about the films getting to me
and doing the restoration (more later) but there is the quick sheet.
